RIGA, Aug. 9 (Xinhua) — Dozens of Latvian children traveling to a surf camp in Portugal have been left stranded in Spain after a spate of bungled logistics by tour operator Fisom.
The Latvian state is now organizing transport to repatriate the children.
A total of 171 people went on the trip to Portugal organized by Fisom, according to the Latvian Foreign Ministry’s post to the social platform X, formerly known as Twitter. The ministry reports that 24 of the 109 people currently in Spain have left, or will be leaving for Latvia in the near future. In Portugal, two out of 62 people have already left for Latvia.
Latvia’s Consumer Rights Protection Center said that it would organize free repatriation of the travelers stranded in Spain. Children have been asked to prepare for departure on Friday afternoon.
Fisom has been unable to fulfil its obligations due to liquidity problems. The Consumer Rights Protection Center has now revoked the company’s license. ■
